The Ancestor 1847 Vineyard Shiraz
Wine
Turkey Flat The Ancestor 1847 Vineyard Shiraz, produced in extremely minimal quantities, is drawn from the vines that in 1847 Johann August Frederick Fiedler planted on his property at Turkey Flat.
The wine not only honours the Schulz family ancestors who purchased the property in the 1870s, but also the vines themselves: having surpassed 125 years of age, they are classified as 'Ancestor vines' in the Barossa Old Vine Charter.
The winemaking is kept simple, relying on the quality of the old vine fruit. It is vinified in open fermenters before being transferred to French oak hogsheads to mature.
After 16 months, just two barrels – one old oak and one new – are chosen. These parcels age for 12 months further in barrel before bottling. The wine is then cellared for a year prior to release.
Deep crimson purple, Turkey Flat The Ancestor 1847 Vineyard Shiraz has the hallmarks of balance, poise and purity. Full bodied but not overbearing, it has dark fruit flavours, velvety tannins and superb length.
The epitome of the Turkey Flat style. Cellaring potential is 30+ years.
